Reading is a Foundational skill:
• Virtually all knowledge is stored and accessible in a readable format.
• Most learning is accomplished or augmented via reading.
• Much interaction is now via reading and writing.
Therefore, the earlier and better a child learns to read, the higher their capacity for future learning.
• Ironically, children read less than ever.
• Only 14% of students read for fun every day
• Down half from 27% in 2012
• 31% never read for fun
